What it does
Mobilise. Stretch. Strengthen.
🦶

Mobilise

The steeper angle places the big toe into extension and stretches the plantar fascia directly. Use this position for targeted plantar fascia stretching and big toe mobilisation work.

🧘

Stretch

The lower angle provides the ideal platform for calf stretching and a full range of lower limb stretching exercises, giving you a comfortable, controlled position you can hold and progress.

💪

Strengthen

The lower angle also doubles as a strengthening platform for heel raises, squats, lunges and single-leg work. The inclined surface adds a controlled range-of-motion challenge to every exercise.

The science behind it
Why slant board training works

A slant board is not just a stretching tool. Elevating the heel changes the mechanics of every exercise you perform on it. It loads the calf and Achilles more effectively, increases the range of motion through the ankle, and places the foot in a position that is significantly harder to replicate on flat ground. That combination makes it one of the most efficient lower limb training tools available.

Calf and Achilles loading

Heel raises performed on an inclined surface recruit the calf through a greater range of motion than flat-ground raises. The deficit created by the slope means the muscle works from a deeper stretch, building more strength and resilience through the full range. Research consistently shows incline heel raises outperform flat raises for Achilles tendon rehabilitation and lower limb strength gains.

Ankle mobility and range of motion

Restricted ankle dorsiflexion is one of the most commonly missed contributors to plantar fasciitis, knee pain and hip tightness. Standing on an inclined surface creates a sustained dorsiflexion load that progressively opens up this range. Over time, improved ankle mobility changes how load is distributed through the entire lower limb with every step.

Lower limb strength and stability

Squats, lunges and single-leg work performed on an angled surface challenge balance and stability in a way flat training cannot replicate. The incline shifts load forward, increasing demand on the quads, glutes and intrinsic foot muscles simultaneously. This translates directly to better function for walking, running and standing for extended periods.

The Scalene Slant Board was designed to make incline training accessible, consistent and effective at home. Two angles, a stable grooved surface and a compact footprint that fits anywhere in the house.

1

Lower angle for calf stretching and strength training

The lower angle is the workhorse position. Use it for calf stretching, heel raises, squats, lunges and any bilateral or single-leg strength work. The incline adds a controlled range-of-motion challenge to every exercise without overloading the plantar fascia.

2

Steeper angle for plantar fascia and big toe mobilisation

The steeper angle places the forefoot and big toe into extension, creating a direct stretch along the plantar fascia. Use this position for targeted plantar fascia stretching and big toe mobilisation as part of your morning routine or warm-up.

3

Grooved EVA surface for barefoot use

No sandpaper, no shoe required. The grooved surface grips the foot comfortably across both angles, giving you stable footing whether you are holding a static stretch or moving through a strength set.

Built differently
Why ultra-dense EVA matters
🧱

Ultra-high-density foam

Most EVA slant boards compress under body weight. The Scalene uses the highest-density EVA available, maintaining its shape and angle session after session.

⚖️

Lightweight and portable

At 1.5kg, it's light enough to move between rooms, take to the clinic, or pack for travel. No assembly, no setup, just use it.

🦶

Designed for barefoot use

The grooved surface grips skin comfortably without being rough. No socks, no shoes needed. Just stand on it and work.

📐

The Scalene triangle shape

The triangular cross-section gives you two distinct angle positions with a single flip. A cleverly simple design that replaces multiple wedge tools.

🏋️

Wide enough for both feet

At 37cm wide, the board accommodates two-foot exercises comfortably. Use for bilateral heel raises, squats and any standing bilateral drill.

🩺

Physiotherapist-designed

Developed with clinical use in mind. The angles, surface, and dimensions were chosen based on how slant boards are actually used in rehabilitation.

Close-up of The Scalene grooved EVA surface texture
Grooved for barefoot grip

The parallel groove pattern runs across the full standing surface of the Scalene. It gives your foot something to grip without being abrasive. No sandpaper, no rough texture. Just comfortable, non-slip contact.

It is specifically designed for use without shoes or socks. The grooves work with the skin, not against it, whether you are holding a static stretch or moving through a set of heel raises.

  • High-density EVA foam, not compressed rubber or hard plastic
  • Comfortable for extended barefoot holds during calf stretching
  • Grips without abrasion, even on sensitive skin
  • Easy to wipe clean between sessions
Why it matters
Scalene vs timber slant boards
The Scalene Our pick Standard Timber Board
Surface texture Grooved EVA, comfortable barefoot Coarse sandpaper, abrasive on skin
Durability Ultra high density EVA foam Delaminates and splits over time
Weight 1.5kg, move it anywhere Heavy and awkward to move
Angles available Two angles in one board Usually fixed at a single angle
Barefoot comfort Grooved surface, slight cushion underfoot, designed for barefoot use Rigid, abrasive sandpaper requires socks or shoes
Moisture resistance EVA is fully waterproof, wipes clean Absorbs sweat, warps, grows mould

Most timber slant boards are cheap to make but unpleasant to use barefoot. The Scalene was built around the experience of actually standing on it.

What customers say
Real results from real people
★★★★★

"This is one of the best rehab tools I use and recommend regularly in my clinical practice to help patients address their plantar fascia pain. After I've done a work-up to determine suitability, it's an easy to use tool to provide targeted loading to the plantar fascia."

Talysha (Podiatrist)

★★★★★

"After battling with plantar fasciitis for a few months it got progressively worse. Within a week I noticed improvement and extra strength, and after 2 weeks felt significant progression."

"The only approach which worked to resolve my Achilles tendon and plantar fasciitis problem without having to take a long break from sports. Prior to this I used chiropractic, physio, orthotics and rest — none of them worked as well."
